Create and Manage Duty Crews
This guide covers creating duty crews, adding members, and organising crews for your brigade rotation.
Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”- Brigade admin or organisation admin role
- At least one active member in your brigade to assign to crews
Create a Crew
Section titled “Create a Crew”1. Navigate to Duty Crews
Section titled “1. Navigate to Duty Crews”- Log in to StationOne
- Click Duty Crews in the main navigation
2. Create a New Crew
Section titled “2. Create a New Crew”- Click New Crew
- Fill in the crew details:
Name (required)
- A unique name for this crew within your brigade
- Examples: Alpha, Bravo, Red Crew, Blue Crew, A-Shift, B-Shift
Description (optional)
- Notes about this crew’s responsibilities or composition
Colour
- Pick a colour using the colour picker, or type a HEX code directly
- The colour is used to identify the crew in the rotation calendar and task board
- Each crew should have a distinct colour for clarity
Active
- Leave checked to make the crew immediately available in the rotation
- Click Create Crew
You’ll be taken to the crew detail page.
Add Members to a Crew
Section titled “Add Members to a Crew”From the Crew Page
Section titled “From the Crew Page”- Open the crew (click its name from the Duty Crews list)
- Click the Members tab
- In the Add Member panel on the right:
- Select a member from the dropdown
- Optionally select a Role: Leader or Member
- Click Add Member
The member is added to the crew immediately. If they were previously in another crew, they are automatically moved.
Member Roles
Section titled “Member Roles”- Leader — Designates one member as the crew leader. Each crew can have one leader.
- Member — Standard crew membership (default)
Remove a Member
Section titled “Remove a Member”- On the Members tab, find the member to remove
- Click Remove next to their name
- The member is removed from the crew and is no longer assigned to any crew
Manage Existing Crews
Section titled “Manage Existing Crews”Edit Crew Details
Section titled “Edit Crew Details”- Open the crew
- Click Edit
- Update name, description, colour, or active status
- Click Update Crew
Deactivate a Crew
Section titled “Deactivate a Crew”If a crew is no longer in rotation but you want to keep its history:
- Open the crew and click Edit
- Uncheck Active
- Click Update Crew
Inactive crews are excluded from the rotation schedule and won’t appear in the duty board.
Delete a Crew
Section titled “Delete a Crew”A crew can only be deleted if it has no members assigned.
- Remove all members from the crew first (Members tab → Remove each member)
- Scroll to the Danger Zone at the bottom of the crew page
- Click Delete Crew
Naming Conventions
Section titled “Naming Conventions”Choose names that make sense to your brigade:
- Letter-based: Alpha, Bravo, Charlie
- Colour-based: Red Crew, Blue Crew, Green Crew
- Shift-based: A-Shift, B-Shift, Night Crew
Crew Colours
Section titled “Crew Colours”Use easily distinguishable colours, especially if you have more than two crews. The rotation calendar uses these colours to show at a glance which crew is on duty each day.
How Many Crews?
Section titled “How Many Crews?”The rotation schedule works with any number of active crews. Two crews in a weekly rotation means each crew is on for one week, then off for one week. Three crews in a weekly rotation means each crew is on every third week.
Common Issues
Section titled “Common Issues”Member Not Appearing in the Dropdown
Section titled “Member Not Appearing in the Dropdown”The member must belong to the same brigade (unit) as the crew. If they’re not listed:
- Verify the member is added to your brigade under Members
- Check they have an active account (not archived)
Can’t Delete the Crew
Section titled “Can’t Delete the Crew”The crew must have zero members before it can be deleted. Remove all members first via the Members tab.
Name Already Taken
Section titled “Name Already Taken”Crew names must be unique within your brigade. Choose a different name, or check if a crew with that name already exists (including inactive crews).
