How to Use the Interactive Map
The interactive map allows you to plot important site features — such as hydrants, isolation points, exits, and hazardous material storage areas — directly on a satellite map. This guide explains how to add and manage map annotations.
Prerequisites
Section titled “Prerequisites”- Brigade admin or organisation admin role
- A pre-plan with a valid site address or GPS coordinates
- A modern web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge)
1. Open the Map Editor
Section titled “1. Open the Map Editor”- Navigate to your pre-plan
- Click Edit
- Scroll to the Interactive Map section
- The map will centre on the site address or GPS coordinates
If the map doesn’t show the correct location, update the site address or enter latitude and longitude coordinates manually.
2. Set the Site Location
Section titled “2. Set the Site Location”Using address search:
- Type the site address in the search field
- Select the correct result from the autocomplete suggestions
- The map will pan and zoom to the location
Using coordinates:
- Enter the latitude and longitude in the coordinate fields
- The map will centre on the specified point
3. Add Markers
Section titled “3. Add Markers”Markers indicate specific point features on the site:
- Select a marker type from the toolbar
- Click on the map to place the marker
- Enter a label and description in the popup
- Click Save
Available marker types:

4. Reposition Markers
Section titled “4. Reposition Markers”To move a marker after placing it:
- Click and hold the marker
- Drag it to the correct position
- Release to drop
5. Edit Marker Details
Section titled “5. Edit Marker Details”- Click on an existing marker
- Update the label, description, or colour
- Click Save
6. Draw Zones
Section titled “6. Draw Zones”Zones are polygon areas that highlight regions of the site:
- Select a zone type from the toolbar
- Click on the map to place each corner of the polygon
- Double-click to complete the shape
- Enter a label and description
- Click Save
Available zone types:

7. Edit Zones
Section titled “7. Edit Zones”- Click on an existing zone
- Update the label, description, or colour
- Drag corner handles to reshape the polygon
- Click Save
8. Delete Annotations
Section titled “8. Delete Annotations”- Click on the marker or zone you want to remove
- Click the Delete button in the popup
- Confirm the deletion
9. Save the Pre-Plan
Section titled “9. Save the Pre-Plan”Click Save on the pre-plan form to persist all map changes. Map annotations are stored as part of the pre-plan record.
Map Legend
Section titled “Map Legend”When viewing a pre-plan (not editing), the map displays a legend showing all marker and zone types used on the site. Each entry includes the marker icon and label.
Print View
Section titled “Print View”The pre-plan print view generates a static map image with pin overlays. This is suitable for printing and including in physical pre-plan folders.
Marker Placement
Section titled “Marker Placement”Place markers as precisely as possible. Crews will use these positions to locate features during an incident. Zoom in closely before placing markers for best accuracy.
Zone Colours
Section titled “Zone Colours”Use distinct colours for different zone types to make the map easy to read at a glance. Red for hazmat and exclusion zones, green for assembly areas.
Address Geocoding
Section titled “Address Geocoding”If the address search doesn’t find the correct location, try entering GPS coordinates directly. You can find coordinates using Google Maps or similar mapping tools.
Multiple Buildings
Section titled “Multiple Buildings”For sites with multiple buildings, use building outline zones to mark each structure, then place markers relative to those outlines.
