Public Hose Interface

This guide walks you through enabling public access to your brigade’s hose register, allowing community members and external personnel to view and test hoses via QR codes.

  • Brigade admin role
  • Public access module enabled (if required by organisation)
  • Hoses already created in the system

The public hose interface allows:

  • Community members to view hose inventory
  • External testers to conduct hose tests
  • QR code-based access without login
  • Public reporting of overdue hoses
  • Transparency in testing compliance
  1. Log in to StationOne
  2. Select your organisation and unit
  3. Go to Brigade Settings
  4. Click Public Page tab
  5. Toggle Public QR Code Access to ON
  6. System generates unique public URL and QR code

After enabling general public access:

  1. In Brigade Settings → Public Page
  2. Find Public Hoses section
  3. Toggle Enable Public Hoses to ON
  4. Public can now view hoses and record tests

Get Public URL:

  1. In Brigade Settings → Public Page
  2. Copy the Public URL
  3. Share via:
    • Email to community
    • Post on brigade website
    • Print on noticeboards
    • Include in newsletters

Get QR Code:

  1. In Brigade Settings → Public Page
  2. View or download QR code image
  3. Print and display:
    • Station noticeboard
    • Appliance doors
    • Equipment storage areas
    • Community centres

When someone accesses the public interface, they see:

  • List of all in-service hoses
  • Reference numbers
  • Specifications (diameter, material, coupling)
  • Next test due dates
  • Overdue status
  • View hose details
  • Record hose tests
  • Report issues
  • See testing history

Viewing Hoses:

  1. Scan QR code or visit public URL
  2. See complete hose inventory
  3. Check test due dates
  4. View specifications

Recording Tests (if authorised):

  1. Select hose to test
  2. Click Record Test
  3. Enter test details:
    • Test date
    • Result (pass/fail)
    • Notes
    • Name of tester
  4. Submit test

External contractors or mutual aid brigades can:

  • Access without StationOne login
  • Record tests on behalf of brigade
  • View testing history
  • Check specifications

When public users record tests:

  • Test logged against hose
  • Next test due calculated
  • Status updated if failed
  • Admin notified of failures

Visible to Public:

  • In-service hose list
  • Hose specifications
  • Test due dates
  • Testing interface

NOT Visible:

  • Out of service hoses
  • Retired hoses
  • Repair history details
  • Internal notes
  • Administrative functions

If QR code is compromised:

  1. Go to Brigade Settings → Public Page
  2. Click Regenerate QR Code
  3. New URL and QR code generated
  4. Old code immediately invalid
  5. Distribute new code

To disable public access:

  1. Toggle Public Hoses to OFF
  2. Or disable general Public QR Code Access
  3. Public URL stops working immediately
  4. Internal access unaffected

Good Locations:

  • Station entrance door
  • Appliance cab (interior)
  • Equipment storage room
  • Noticeboard in common area
  • Pump panel (laminated)

Protection:

  • Laminate printed codes
  • Use weather-resistant materials
  • Place under cover
  • Check periodically for damage

Include with QR Code:

  • Instructions on use
  • What information is available
  • Who can access
  • Contact for issues
  • Privacy notice

Example text:

Scan to view our hose inventory and testing records.
For station access or emergencies, call [number].
For technical issues, contact [email].

Review Public Tests:

  • Check daily for new tests
  • Verify test details
  • Follow up on failures
  • Thank external testers

Quality Control:

  • Spot-check test accuracy
  • Verify tester credentials
  • Follow up on unclear notes
  • Maintain testing standards

If QR code fails:

  • Check code isn’t damaged
  • Verify correct URL
  • Try regenerating code
  • Check internet connection
  • Clear browser cache

If public access blocked:

  • Verify public access enabled
  • Check hose public access toggle
  • Confirm module enabled
  • Check organisation settings

If public tests fail:

  • Check hose is in service
  • Verify not already tested today
  • Ensure required fields filled
  • Check for validation errors

Public Information:

  • Hose specifications are public knowledge
  • Testing schedules ensure compliance
  • Community has interest in readiness

Internal Information:

  • Repair costs remain private
  • Internal notes not visible
  • Failed test details limited
  • Admin functions protected

Benefits:

  • Increases transparency
  • Community sees readiness
  • External testers can assist
  • Promotes brigade engagement

  • Monitor public access
  • Review what’s shared
  • Update as needed
